The Wattle and Daub House

Friends of Etowah Indian Mounds have tackled an enormous project this summer. Beginning in April, they undertook the construction of a 12' x 18' wattle and daub house using authentic materials and techniques.
Each Saturday, volunteers were on hand to add to the house. Over weeks and weeks the house steadily began to take shape and is now almost complete. read more »
Digging Without a Shovel: Modern Technology Uncovers Ancient History
Since 2005, a team of scientists has been working to uncover the archeological history of Etowah Indian Mounds. They have been “digging” with remote sensing equipment that allows them to uncover artifacts and structures without ever breaking ground. read more »
Planting for the Future... And the Past
Historical interpretation is always important at the Historic Sites of Georgia. At Etowah Indian Mounds, this has meant the construction of an authentic wattle and daub structure, the addition of a diorama depicting the way the mounds may have looked, and, now, even the grass will be a part of the story. read more »
