If you need further incentive to hit those trails, grab your GPS and enjoy a geocaching treasure hunt. Whether you are with the entire family, a group of friends, or hiking solo, geocaching is a great way to keep everyone engaged and it provides a great challenge for those who are ready to hunt some treasure!
This ever-growing game is perfect for families and outdoor enthusiasts who are ready for a time of outdoor exploration combined with the convenience of modern technology. These treasure hunters explore both state parks and historic sites, following a GPS in search of caches. There are now 46 caches in 43 state parks as far north as Cloudland Canyon to as far south as Skidaway Island and even 14 historic sites on History Trail have joined in the fun!
Every age can participate and this can be done as a group or individually. If you’re new to geocaching but don’t know where to begin, Panola Mountain State Park is hosting “What is Geocaching?” on December 17 where you can get a crash course on how to get started!
