Eleven volunteers donated their time and effort to further the creation of equestrian trails and facilities at the Chattahoochee Bend State Park (CBSP) on Saturday, April 7th. The following folks walked the forest and flagged 0.8 miles of future trail located near the planned equestrian trailhead: Cheryl Reed, Libby Parham, Dana Wicher, Cathe McKinnon, Debby Bishop, Diana Wilson, Deanna McMurrain, and Larry Wheat. Libby was our clinometer technician for the day, keeping the trail grade within modern trail design specifications.
In celebration of Arbor Day, Friends of Chattahoochee Bend State Park partnered with the Newnan Rotary Club and Tree Protection Supply Company to multiply their efforts in preservation and beautification of Georgia's newest state park. Together, these organizations worked together in planting 100 trees through the park in honor of Arbor Day.
July first marks the grand opening of Georgia’s newest state park: Chattahoochee Bend. It has been nearly twenty years since the establishment of a Georgia state park and the Department of Natural Resources is please to present this new park. Although construction began in 2009, plans began formulating in 2006, and it is now Georgia’s fifth largest state park. With an established Friends chapter in place, this park is ready to welcome guests. Complete with 2,900 acres, miles of trails, both tent and RV camping sites, picnic shelters, and a boat ramp, this new park will be a wonderful assets for the Newnan community as well as adventure seekers ready to explore new areas.
