Friday, September 21 was a great day for Friends of Amicalola Falls as they graciously accepted a check for $50,000 from Amicalola Electric Membership Corporation ("EMC") for restoration of the top of the falls and creek, a new utility vehicle and plans for fulfilling further maintenance needs at the park. For decades, Amicalola EMC has been a strong community partner, giving back to their communities. Their commitment to developing and improving their local communities is benefiting education and organizations, like Friends, who share their vision for improving the needs of the community.

The Friends of Magnolia Springs State Park highlighted their celebration of State Parks Day by raising the US and Georgia flags for the first time on the new flag pole at the Park's entrance. The pole was a gift to the Park purchased with funds earned from hundreds of volunteer hours.

Thanks to Friends of Georgia Veterans Memorial State Park, kids are enjoying upgraded playground facilities. This Friends chapter combined funds with state Friends to upgrade and renovate facilities in order to give families the opportunity to enjoy the park and spend time together. Changes were also made in the campgrounds. One of the campsites near the comfort station was made handicapped accessible and a new camp host site was built.

After speaking at a Glynn County Chamber of Commerce luncheon, Commissioner Mark Williams was invited by Friends of Hofwyl-Broadfield Plantation State Historic Site to join them at their site. The Commissioners visit to the coast was well-received, announcing that he does not intend to make further budget cuts for the operations of our coastal state parks and historic sites this fiscal year.
