Ring the bells and sound the trumpets!

Holiday activities are announcing their way through every corner of Georgia as state parks and historic sites are ready to celebrate and remember Christmas time from long ago and welcome families to create their own unforgettable Christmas memories.  Weekends are packed with events, some annual favorites and others of new beginnings.

“Christmas for Travelers” at Travelers Rest Historic Site welcomes visitors to enjoy live music and period dances by the 1860s Civilian Society.  Crafts, demonstrations, and refreshments are additional highlights. Worsmloe is also celebrating a Colonial Christmas, remembering our great state’s history and the colonial observances from this holiday season.

Don’t forget to see Santa! He’s coming to General Coffee State Park where there will be storytelling, hayrides, and lots of treats!  However, if the kids need to burn off some energy, the Holi-Day Camp at Smithgall Woods may be the perfect, action-packed opportunity awaiting your family.

Crooked River and Audubon Society are welcoming birders to participate in their annual Christmas Bird Count as everyone keeps an eye open for brown-headed nuthatchers, brown thrashers, northern bobwhites, and bald eagles.

A pleasant evening with a Christmas Lakeside Light Show at Sloppy Floyd State Park is ideal for the entire family, creating unforgettable memories and cherished family moments.  You can either drive or walk through this winter wonderland and tractor pulled hayrides and ‘smores will be offered particular nights as well!

Many more exciting events are planned and waiting for you at your state parks and historic sites across Georgia.  Escape the hectic holiday rush or the ciaos that unwantedly creeps in and give you and your family a Christmas season to remember. Visit or call your local state park or historic site to find what is happening near you. Or, visit the Events Calendar to find a complete listing of all activities happening this month and discover what sparks your interest!  Have a very merry Christmas and a joyful holiday season.
