It’s time for some spring cleaning with the 2023 Chattahoochee River Keepers SWEEP THE HOOCH event! This will be the 13th year the event has been held and the Friends group is asking you to help collect trash that has accumulated along our shores. With the western boundary of the park being the Chattahoochee River, keeping it clean and looking good is a priority. This statewide effort pulled 60 tons of trash from the Chattahoochee and its tributaries in 2022. If the Bend isn’t convenient, we encourage you to look for a site that works for you.
We will have two groups of workers, Walkers and Paddlers. Heavy rains cause the river water to back up into the creeks within the park. As the water levels return to normal the receding water leaves trash deposited along the creeks. This is where Walkers come in, land based volunteers who pick up trash along creeks or at water’s edge. Paddlers use kayaks or canoes (must provide their own) and travel a section of the river collecting trash. To participate in this cleanup event, register at https://chattahoochee.org/sweep-the-hooch/. Once you select either Walker or Paddler it will let you select a site.
