Our Volunteer Heroes

From trail cleanups to special events, Friends of Victoria Bryant have been making a big impact at their park. Their work keeps trails clear, programs running, and community connections strong. With help from a Friends passport grant, the group recently purchased new tables and chairs for the golf course—creating a more welcoming space for visitors to gather and relax.

Each project, big or small, reflects the care these volunteers pour into the park. Want to make a difference where it counts? Join a Friends group and help Georgia’s State Parks grow and thrive.

Honoring Daisy Bonner: FDR's Beloved Cook

Tucked off Leverett Hill Road, a quiet gravesite tells the story of Daisy Bonner, who cooked President Roosevelt’s first and last meals at the Little White House. After his passing in 1945, she left a simple message on the kitchen wall:
“Daisy Bonner cook the first meal and the last for President Roosevelt in this cottage.”

Now, efforts are underway to restore Daisy and Jack Bonner’s gravesite with a new border, interpretive sign, and long-overdue care. Help honor this legacy and preserve a piece of history.
