Civilian Conservation Corps Camp Restoration Project Holiday Dinner
Join Friends of Hard Labor Creek State Park on Sunday, December 14, at one of the original CCC camp buildings for an evening of food and education. The building is one of the only original remaining camp buildings used for recreation, education, infirmary, and miscellaneous events by the boys at Camp Rutledge and was referred to as the Welfare Building. The dinner will replicate a CCC camp holiday menu.
This event marks the first initiative by the Friends of Hard Labor Creek State Park to establish a restoration funding account, providing the necessary funds to prevent further deterioration of the existing structures in preparation for the 100th anniversary of the CCC at Hard Labor Creek State Park in 2034.
The Featured Presenter is Judd Smith. Judd is a retired Georgia State Parks Chief Historian. He will share stories of the Civilian Conservation Corps, its impact on Hard Labor Creek, and the lives of the Camp SP-8 CCC boys.
