Faces of Friends

With over 20 years of volunteer service and contributing thousands of hours towards protecting and improving Fort Yargo State Park, Juanita Alexander has certainly become a dear and valuable Friend! From planting and enhancement projects to interpretive and historical programs, Juanita takes her leadership and volunteer roles seriously, but not without a smile. Her care for the park is extended to all Fort Yargo’s guests as she welcomes visitors with pride and open arms!

One of Juanita’s biggest accomplishments at the park is creating and establishing the Colonial Market Fair, which has quickly grown to become the park’s most successful interpretive program.  Each year, Juanita and the rest of the Friends of Fort Yargo team of volunteers, draw thousands of visitors to the park over a 4-day period. She also leads Fun at the Fort each month for visitors, allowing them to transport in time to 18th century living, cooking, and tool demonstrations.

It is with great pleasure that we congratulate Juanita on her hard work and incredible efforts as well as all of our Friends volunteers who are making a difference to keep Georgia's state parks beautiful, safe places for everyone!
