Friends Volunteers Bring Living History to Thousands at Coast Fest

Reenactors

Visitors to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Coast Fest got a firsthand look at history in action thanks to a collaborative effort between two dedicated Friends groups.

The Friends of Fort McAllister and Friends of Fort Morris joined forces to present live cannon and musket firing demonstrations at Mary Ross Waterfront Park in Brunswick. The event drew an impressive crowd which had the opportunity to experience these historic demonstrations up close.

Throughout the day, volunteers brought the past to life with engaging and educational presentations, offering insight into the equipment, techniques, and stories behind these powerful symbols of Georgia’s coastal history. The demonstrations served not only as entertainment, but as a meaningful way to connect visitors with the state’s rich heritage.

This partnership highlights the impact of collaboration between Friends groups and their shared commitment to supporting Georgia’s state historic sites. By working together, these volunteers were able to reach a broad audience and create a memorable experience for thousands of attendees.

Events like Coast Fest provide a unique opportunity to engage the public, inspire interest in history, and showcase the important role Friends groups play in preserving and interpreting Georgia’s natural and cultural resources.
