I've been a member of the Friends of James H. "Sloppy" Floyd State Park for about five years now. This little park is a beautiful piece of the northwest Georgia mountains with a couple of great fishing lakes thrown in. At first my duties mainly were raking mulch or litter pick up. Now I'm the main Friends guy to operated the tractor and am cleared to run chain saws. Because this park has only three full time and two part time staff, they are always stretched too thin. Gradually I've become a part time but not quite official staff member. My whole life I've been a member of various teams, from high school sports to my job of 35+years to a volunteer firefighter. Now I'm proud to put on my volunteer shirt, hop on the little Kubota and remove a fallen tree that I helped down and cut up. I truly feel part of this team of wonderful people who are blessed to work at one of the most beautiful parks in the state.
