On the inviting shores of Lake Walter F. George (also called Lake Eufaula) sits quiet Florence Marina State Park. This 45,000-acre lake invites guests to enjoy various water sports complete with a boating dock and ramp, fishing pier, and boat rental. Overnight visitors are invited to stay in the park’s cottages or enjoy the many camping opportunities at the campground.

Although there are many other opportunities available, such as picnicking, birding, playing miniature golf, or geocaching, Lake Walter F. George remains a highlight for many guests. This is why, in 2010, Friends of Florence Marina State Park worked to restore a newly acquired 17-foot Boston Whaler boat so that the park might be equipped to perform necessary marina clean-up projects, creating a safer, more beautiful environment for all who visit.

Through Friends of Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites 2010 Matching Grants Program, Friends of Florence Marina acquired enough funding to rebuild a used motor, acquire a radio with an antenna, and obtain two life jackets. Through the Friends dedicated efforts, park staff and volunteers have been able to utilize this boat in performing necessary marina maintenance and work to preserve the beauty of this state park
