On September 1 of 2018, Friends of Smithgall Woods hosted a Cabin Fever: Bluegrass and BBQ festival. This festival featured performances from several bluegrass bands, arts and crafts, and several vendors. All of the proceeds from the event supported Smithgall Woods' campaign to purchase a primitive cabin that they can use for programming. The event lasted all day long and was loads of fun! There was some delicious BBQ, many craft and food vendors, and live music all day long. Volunteers ran guided hayride tours of the park. The tour featured Smithgall's bee habitat and the beautiful woods surrounding the park. If you're able to visit Smithgall Woods make sure you head to the visitor's center to purchase some of the honey made at the park! You can also check out the discovery center; it's a fantastic educational tool, and it's fun for all ages!

Smithgall Woods is an excellent spot to visit if you're going to be in the Northeast Georgia Region. Anglers can come to check out the fish in the crystal clear trout streams of Dukes Creek. Check out the excellent hiking trails which are covered in local wildflowers on the Blue Ridge Escarpment. These trails are a masterpiece of nature and have been reclaimed and rejuvenated from land transformed by hydraulic gold mining in the nineteenth century, and the enduring legacy of its donor Charles Smithgall.
