Family Fishing

Grab the whole family along with your bait, tackle, rod, and Friends membership and head to your Georgia state parks this month for fishing opportunities for everyone. Enjoy your free parking and make it a fishing weekend with your free camping or discounts on your cottage stay. Parks throughout the state are hosting exciting fishing events and tournaments each weekend this month and you are invited!

For those interested in learning more about fishing, maybe your first stop will be Panola Mountain State Park’s Fly Fishing Clinics. Here, participants will learn not only casting tricks but also safety tips for all of your fishing excursions. Or perhaps visiting Sweetwater Creek for an Introduction to Flyfishing will be your initial destination. An angler expert is sharing his expertise regarding the art of fly casting on the banks of Sweetwater Creek. Poles will be provided for the class, or anglers can bring their own tackle.

Maybe the next stop is one of the Kids Fishing Rodeos. Adults can watch the youngest members of the family try their hands at snatching up an award-winning trout or perhaps a feisty bass. Children can bring their rods and reels for an entire day of fun at Reed Bingham State Park for their Kids Fishing Rodeo or perhaps your preference is Vogel State Park’s Kids Fishing Rodeo. At Vogel, kids will enjoy fishing at Wolf Creek, stocked with plenty of trout for these young anglers. Lucky ticket holders will have the opportunity to win prizes and enjoy the provided coke refreshments.

Another option is Smithgall Woods State Park for their Youth Fishing Day at Buck Shoals. All children, along with a special “older helper” can fish for catfish, bass, and bream where kids can keep their catches!

Join Seminole State Park and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for both an exciting, yet educational experience at the Junior Fishing Rodeo with a casting contest and Outdoor Education Day featuring water safety, canoe safety, and snakes.

The young at heart are invited to A.H. Stephens Historic Park for the Senior Fishing Rodeo for all anglers 55 and older. Participants will be competing for wonderful prizes and a hot lunch will be provided for all who participate.

Whether you are interested in taking advantage of some of these exciting opportunities this month, or you are ready to plan your own fishing excursion, your Georgia state parks are ready to welcome you. With your Friends membership in hand, your adventures will be not only fun, but affordable. For more information about these events regarding further dates, times, and details Click Here
