Spring is here and our winged friends and blooming beauties are showing their colors. Georgia State parks and historic sites have some of the greatest hiking trails and wildlife refuges in the state. With so many native plants and wildlife, Georgia's state parks always bring lots of excitement and endless opportunities.

Panola Mountain State Park is particularly popular for its colorful Diamorpha and Unicoi State Park's 1,050 acres of habitat for birding brings many binoculars ready to catch a glimpse of the colorful wings. Other popular areas include Florence Marina State Park for their exotic water birds and Pine Mountain Ridge, which incorporates F.D. Roosevelt State Park, which has specifically been recognized as an Important Bird Area (IBA) by the Audubon Society.

One of the best ways to catch the colors of the season is to simply grab your boots and a water bottle and head out on the trails. Many of our Facebook friends have shared their favorite scenic parks for hiking. The top two most recommended state parks were Cloudland Canyon and Amicalola Falls, closely followed by Providence Canyon, Sweetwater Creek, Tallulah Gorge, and Fort Mountain. Several other parks were also mentioned, making it evident that our state parks are truly loved and cherished by many.
