Friends of Richard B. Russell State Park would like to introduce you to their home, Richard B. Russell State Park. Seven miles outside the city limits of Elberton, Ga., you will find this beautiful 2508 acres of nothing but beauty. With amenities such as cottages with a boat ramp, trailer parking and docks, disc golf, beach, and an 18 hole golf course, you are sure to have a fun-filled weekend or vacation stay.
Another wonderful amenity the park has is Friends of Richard B. Russell State Park. This group of volunteers works hard to keep the trails and park in pristine condition for visitors. They fund and work on the landscaping and beautification projects throughout the park. The chapter has monetarily supported and assisted with events such as Easter Egg Hunts and the Halloween Festival. Former Board Member (now deceased), Walter McNeely, worked with the Elberton Community to build an Olympic Rowing Center at Lake Russell in 1995 for the 1996 Centennial Olympic Rowing teams to practice. Following in her father's footsteps, Elizabeth (McNeely) Taylor recently took on the position as Chapter President for Friends of Richard B. Russell. Elizabeth and her chapter team, Gary Jones, Daniel Graves, Jackson McConnell, and Gerry Besharat, work closely with community leaders and the park manager to promote and preserve Richard B. Russell State Park so future generations will enjoy the park and its history. If you haven't visited the park, you have to put it n your road-tripping agenda.
