Picnic Tables Get a Fresh Start at Chattahoochee Bend State Park

Meals at the Adirondack camp of Chattahoochee Bend State Park will soon be a more enjoyable experience, thanks to newly resurfaced picnic tables installed by dedicated Friends volunteers. Years of exposure to the elements had taken a toll on the tables, leaving the wood badly weathered and in need of attention.

During the December Second Saturday Work Day, a team of Friends members came together to tackle the project. Old, deteriorated surfaces were removed and replaced with new materials, restoring both the function and appearance of the tables. Volunteers Dennis Whaley and Sarah Lester gave the tables special care, routing the edges and sanding the surfaces to ensure a smooth, finished result that park visitors can comfortably enjoy.

In total, five volunteers worked side by side to complete the project: Dennis Whaley, Sarah Lester, Jan Pierce, and Cheryl and Lon Reed, whose teamwork kept the process moving efficiently in an assembly-line fashion. Additional support helped make the day a success. Phil LaRue relocated the tables to the park maintenance shop ahead of time so power tools could be safely used, and Fast Eddie Faulkner stopped by to lend his supervision and encouragement.

The Friends of Chattahoochee Bend are proud of the improvements and hope visitors will notice—and appreciate—the refreshed picnic tables. With this update in place, the Adirondack camp is better prepared to serve families, campers, and day visitors for many seasons to come.
