September Events & Activities

Fall is here, and Georgia’s State Parks are the perfect place to enjoy the season. Whether you're trading summer beach days for fall hikes or prefer a more relaxed pace, there’s something for everyone. Kids of all ages can enjoy both classic fall activities and new adventures while taking in Georgia’s seasonal beauty.

Off The Beaten Path

We all know Georgia’s State Parks have some of the best options for hiking in the country, some of the most popular being at Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge, Black Rock Mountain State Park, and Cloudland Canyon State Park, to name a few. How about some trails you may not hear about as often but are just as wonderful? Iron Hill Trail at Red Top Mountain State Park is stunning this time of year as the leaves start to change, and the nature trails at Watson Mill Bridge State Park are perfect for a weekend hike. This is also the ideal time of year for a ranger-led hike at Panola Mountain State Park for their Daisy Days. Whatever you choose, the trails in Georgia always welcome you to the gorgeous views and wonders of nature!

Sit and Stay Awhile

If you’re looking to slow down and soak in the season, there are plenty of ways to relax at Georgia’s State Parks. Enjoy a peaceful picnic, or sit back and watch the wildlife and scenery. Here are a few ideas for unwinding this fall:

Fishing 101 - While the initial learning may take a moment, fishing is a great way to enjoy nature in a quiet and laid-back environment. If you or young ones you know want to learn or would like a refresher, check this out over at Red Top Mountain State Park.

DIY Bird Feeders - Birdwatch and craft at Crooked River State Park as you create your own bird feeder.

Trivia: Let’s Get Quizzical - Your heartbeat may speed up as you rush to answer correctly but you are assured to enjoy the relaxing topics of flora and fauna, facts about Skidaway Island State Park, and local Georgia history - all around the firepit for this fun evening activity!

Paint the Park - Paint the beauty of Fort Mountain State Park during this time of year!

Self-Reflective Writing at the Lake - Take some time for yourself on National Self-Awareness Day with a mindful and meditative evening by the lake at Black Rock Mountain State Park.

Classic Fall Fun

Fall wouldn’t be complete without some timeless seasonal activities. Whether you’re a kid or just young at heart, Georgia’s parks offer plenty of ways to embrace the fun of the season. From hayrides to s’mores, there’s something for everyone:
